A look behind the creation of Loominals
Lost Transmissions is the first fully-onchain generative art project by Th0mas Art on Ethereum. It is inspired by the cathode ray tube (CRT) screens invented by Karl Ferdinand Braun in 1897.

The project emulates the look and feel of a vintage CRT display, complete with a convex faceplate (outwardly bulged), which introduces characteristic distortions to the monochromatic artworks. Subtle details, such as uneven light reflections, mimic the appearance of washed-out areas on the screen. This shows the progression from the initial experiments to the final outcome.

In rare instances, a defective R, G, or B channel may create unexpected cyan, magenta, or yellow hues, adding an element of unpredictability to the visuals.

Each artwork combines one of six implemented fonts - Runic, Mukta, Arabic, Japanese, Korean, or Operators - with one of three screen sizes (small, medium, or large), alongside minimalist geometric shapes such as rectangles and circles.

The project launched in January 2025 on 256art, a fully-onchain ETH-based art marketplace, with a total supply of 128 mints. All minted pieces are available for viewing on their website, while secondary market activity can be tracked on OpenSea.
